The Sameer Project Substack
Welcome to The Sameer Project’s Substack!
The Sameer Project (TSP) is a Palestinian-led mutual aid group that provides support to Palestinians in Gaza. The project was founded by three Palestinians in the diaspora who came together in April 2024 to use their different skills and resources to bring relief to their people in Gaza. Click here to read about the reason it was called The Sameer Project.
We are honored to be here, and to be able to share information and stories about Gaza. So far, our communication with our community of donors and supporters has been through social media platforms like Instagram, X, and most recently TikTok. But we have found that it is impossible to capture the nuances and complexities of genocide in limited characters or a one-minute video. This is why we decided to launch a Substack: to create a space for storytelling, documentation, and reflection.
Our mutual aid work started as an emergency response when we saw a gap between the assistance needed and what was being provided. It was supposed to be a temporary solution, intended to last only a few months until a lasting ceasefire was reached. We thought, how could the world allow these atrocities to continue? Unfortunately, Gaza has entered the third year of genocide, and our work both continues and develops in new ways. Regardless of what the future holds for Gaza, TSP is not going anywhere. We are starting to develop long-term strategies and sustainable projects so that what started as an emergency response can evolve into a lasting contribution to the betterment of Palestinians in Gaza.
The Sameer Project has remained independent and self-sufficient, with mutual aid donations going directly to facilitating support in Gaza. Up until now, TSP has functioned with minimal overhead costs, raised through grants and private donations. In 2025, our overhead costs represented less than 1% of the amount of aid we raised and moved into Gaza. But sustaining this work requires consistent support. Through Substack, we hope to share our knowledge, experiences, documentation, and reflections while also creating another way for our community to support The Sameer Project.
All articles and newsletters on The Sameer Project’s Substack will remain free and accessible to everyone. We believe that stories from Gaza, documentation of this genocide, and reflections on mutual aid should not be placed behind a paywall. Paid subscriptions are simply a way for readers and supporters to stand with The Sameer Project and help sustain our work. It is not about exclusive access; it is a form of solidarity and support.
Who Will Write for This Substack?
The writers of the TSP Substack will include:
The co-founders: Hala Sabbah, Lena Dajani, and Translating Falasteen.
TSP team members: Team members on the ground who are interested in sharing their perspectives and stories.
Writers in Gaza: Articles written by various writers in Gaza will be featured. Some will be translated from Arabic to English.
Experts in Gaza: Through our network, we will have experts provide their insights on the situation in Gaza. This will include doctors, municipality workers, civil defence workers, ambulance workers, nurses, teachers, and more.
The wider TSP community: Our community is rich with deep knowledge, so we will provide external perspectives on topics related to the genocide, including mutual aid, history, settler-colonialism, activism, boycotts, and more.
All writers based in Gaza will be paid per article from TSP donations.
What We Will Publish
Through our experience as co-founders, and through our wide network in Gaza, we have the ability to share our expertise and the experiences of Palestinians living through genocide, including stories and perspectives that are often overlooked or never given the space they deserve.
Through our Substack, we will share articles, reflections, newsletters, updates, analysis, and stories from Gaza and from the wider TSP community. Some pieces may focus on mutual aid work and the realities of organizing during genocide. Others may document personal experiences, field perspectives, expert insights, or broader political, historical, and social reflections related to Gaza and Palestine.
Our aim is to create a space where these stories and perspectives can be shared with the depth, care, and context they deserve, without the limits of short social media posts.
All of this content will remain free and accessible to everyone. A paid subscription is not required to read our articles, newsletters, or reflections. If you choose to become a paid subscriber, your subscription will support The Sameer Project and contribute to sustaining our work, including our mutual aid efforts, documentation, storytelling, and the wider infrastructure needed to keep the project going.
Thank you for being here, for reading, for sharing, and for supporting The Sameer Project.
